TWISTER Goes VIRAL….

What an amazing match against the “Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung and Leonard Garcia, ending in the 2nd round with seconds left and Korean Zombie did an amazing move called “The Twister”…

  1. Starts off by going into a back mount,
  2. Get your hooks in trying to flattening your opponent out
  3. When your oponent rolls given his back up, you can end up with double under hooks
  4. basically at the end your opponent will get twisted like a pretzel….

Watch the fbreakdown of the move step by step.

Breakdown of “The Twister” by the GRACIE:

MMA Studios teaching Cardio Kickboxing without proper Certification….

Back in the day, when you went to a Martial Arts studio, you were taught by a certified black belt or a high Level Black Belt. They taught things like:

  • Discipline
  • Cardio
  • Fitness
  • Flexibility
  • Building Stamina
  • Resistance Training
  • To be Focused
  • Self Defense

But now a days, MMA Studios are going into the Mixed Martial Arts world of Cardio Kickboxing / Bag Training / Kickboxing without the proper certification for that type of training. Many Questions come into mind but never asked. They are the following:

  1. Are the instructors  certified in the Cardio Kickboxing?
  2. Do they know CPR?
  3. Is that certification accredited from an  affiliated NCCA ( Nation Commission for Certifying Agencies) Agency?
  4. Are you getting ripped off by the program that is taught, so that the MMA studio provides this training but also you need to take the other classes that the school is originally there for.
  5. The Main Question is are you SAFE There?

Many schools are implementing Cardio Kickboxing to get business up. You see it in a Kung Fu studio, Kempo Style studio, Karate, the list goes on. But instead of being trained in the form that the school is for and certified in that form they should get well educated real trainers at there school as well.

With all this being said, for people who are looking to get trained in MMA and the teachings of Cardio Kickboxing well there is good news.

A new Certification emerged from the MMA Training workouts/programs/weight loss, and it is MMA Conditioning Coach Certification. It is NCCA approved, which utilizes the NESTA (National Exercise and Sports Trainers Association) agency for certification. This program is online course with full equipped videos of:

  • MMA Conditioning
  • MMA Training
  • Fitness Training
  • Gives an open access to the NESTA Database
  • The breakdown of the course is as is:
  • Science Review (Knowing the body is very helpful when teaching someone how to grow/increase power or lose weight)
  • Training Science
  • MMA Specific Drills
  • Safety and Injury Prevention
  • Nutrition Science
  • Sport Psychology for MMA
  • MMA Coaching Business <== Very effective to know how to open a MMA business/store and train your customers correctly.

To learn more about MMA Coach Conditioning program you can click the logo on the right hand side of your screen or click here

Finally, your MMA School should have instructors certified and you should not be afraid to ask, because safety and having a knowledgeable instructor is the most important factor for you to join. So ask the following:

  • Are the instructors certified in CPR?
  • Are the instructors certified by an affiliated NCCA ( Nation Commission for Certifying Agencies) Agency?
  • Are the instructors certified by MMA Conditioning Coach / NESTA?
  • If they teach Kickboxing, do they have a black belt in it and ask for the certification.

Thanks

MMA Etiquette – C’mon MMA Studios Get with it

Have you ever notice when you are waiting for class, people are sweating up a storm in the class before you. You see there hair on the mats, sweat spots on the mats, and most of all it stinks inside the MMA studio. Now, since you paid for class you must go and train on the same sweat spots that other people trained at.

What makes a Mixed Martial Arts Studio have Bad Etiquette?:

  1. After class, they do not go around with a broom/mop to clean up the sweat spots on the floor or other freaky things that people let off from there body.
  2. while in training, the studio allows you to come on the mats with sneakers on to train. These sneakers pick up dirt and crap from the streets or other unknown places and now you must train on those same mats. People have to do sit-ups or push-ups or other ground exercises on those same mats.
  3. NO SANITIZER!!!!
  4. One Bathroom/locker room for both men and women and kids.

Am I disgusting you… Hmmmm I hope so… But that is how some studios are, do you really want to train there. Even cheap Gyms have better etiquette’s then MMA Studios.

However, we are all adults and know about possible germs and diseases out there. We should take the first step in helping:

For example:

  1. Train without your sneakers. Or have a pair of sneakers just for the mats.
  2. Carry a Sanitizer with you at all times.
  3. Carry your own towel of the MMA Studio does not provide one.
  4. Speak to your management staff at the MMA Studio and tell them your concerns. You PAID THEM.
  5. Make sure if you are taking back to back classes, go take the time out and wash your face, hands and put on another shirt and another pair of shorts or whatever, so that you are clean for the next class.

MMA Studios Can:

  • Clean up after every class.
  • Place up automatic sanitizer dispenser machines
  • Enforce the rule of no SHOES, SNEAKERS allowed on the mats
  • Make everyone bring a small towel to train with them.

Finally, its the little things that make an MMA studio clean and safe.

Please provide me feedback…

Bag Training (Cardio Kickboxing) in Mixed Martial Arts – Does it really work?

Hi Welcome back…

The word on the streets is that Bag Training Classes or Cardio Kickboxing Classes are the next big thing in fitness and Mixed Martial Arts. Every dojo, mma studio you go to has a Cardio Kickboxing class for adults or kids.  This incorporated itself when MMA became big as a sport. It builds fitness, stamina, muscle, and a person can lose weight the right way.

Bag Training classes or I would like to call it Cardio Kickboxing has creep into the Mixed Martial Arts world as a fitness regimen as part of many MMA schools. Well, it is now a way of fitness, health, and life for many people who want to lose weight, and build stamina and most of all a way to get the sport of Martial Arts into every family. If you see videos on fitness, there is a jab/cross punch involved with a few kicks here and there. But to make it effective, the form of the punch or kick must be correct. Mixed Martial Arts studios are now incorporating this exercise into there business to give the customer what they want but also to build clientele.

In order for me to right this review, I went 0ut and tried a few classes myself to see what was the noise about. I looked up kickboxing classes on Google and interesting enough many sites came back. The one closest to me was ilovekickboxing.com . So, decided to sign up there.  Once signed up, got a call back and they told me to come in and try out the class. Here is my view on the class.

I would say it was amazing, Here are the following reasons why:

  1. The class itself hits the right body parts to remove the fat in all the right places.
  2. They have 3-4 instructors who are black belts in one or more then one Mixed Martial Arts forms. They are very fit, themselves.
  3. They provide gloves with sign up.
  4. They provide bags filled half way with water (depending on the class size, it is 2 people per bag at the most)
  5. They also, correct kicking and punching techniques so that you are doing it correctly.
  6. Very key on form, if you can’t do it the first class they will be there to help you so that in a week or month you can do it correctly.
  7. Very MOTIVATED INSTRUCTORS to help you meet your goal. <== This is one thing that many MMA places lack. Motivation and a passion for there vision and mission is the key on coming to the place over and over again.

I learned many things, in a couple of days of classes:

  • Now know to kick with the shins and not the in-step.
  • Now know how to punch correctly avoiding to hurt the wrist or hand.
  • Now know how to push myself to the limit with a bit of help from the instructor in the class.
  • Have seen a great i improvement in my stamina and get the right kind of help for my diet.

Also found out that:

  • IloveKickboxing.com Bag Training program is around 85 Plus schools in the United States.
  • Originated from the school I took the classes at, Master Parrella’s Martial Arts Center at Carle Place NY, by Sifu Michael Parrella.
  • Sifu Parralla has invented his own style of this fitness program to help in weight loss which is a big thing today but to actually really care about the people who take the class. Make them achieve his/her goals.
  • They have about 5 classes a day just on Bag Training which is truly amazing.
  • They also provide Sanda Class and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Class. The difference between these classes in this studio vs. other schools is that The instructors are professionals in that form. There is a Sanda Professional fighter that comes down to teach this class as well as a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fighter to teach the class.
  • The staff is there to help you and not just take your money.
  • They are very affordable.

My view on this entire BAG TRAINING classes… Out of 5 stars (5 being the best)

They get 5 stars from me.

My View on Tiger Schulmann’s Mixed Martial Arts

Hi everyone once again, My view on Tiger Schulmann’s Mixed Martial Arts. I personally trained there for about 2 years and would like to share my view and rating on this sort of Martial Arts.

A little bit about Tiger Schulmann’s Mixed Martial Arts Centers:

  • Been in the business for a very long time since 1984.
  • Has training schools all over USA.
  • Started out as a Karate school.
  • Great Grappling program.
  • Has Kickboxing class/grappling class for both adults and kids.
  • Very commercialized<== Which means very expensive. (Can be around 5k per person)
  • Challenge of Champions for both adults and kids. <== Utilize your skills/training in Grappling or Kickboxing to get into a match between other opponents of the same weight and belt level. <== Of course, the background of the opponent is hidden, meaning that there is no evidence of the person taking other forms of martial arts going into the match. You can be fighting a black belt from another form when that person is a white belt in tiger schulmanns.
  • They do claim you can burn “800 calories in one hour” <== NO SCIENTIFIC REASONING BEHIND THIS..
  • Have the ability of opening up your own school with there sensai program or owner program.
  • Have to purchase there products to train with. Very disciplined on it.

So is TSK worth it?
I would say:
•    TSK is commercialized.
•    They are in it to make the money.
•    To pay for there commercials, they are expensive to train at.
•    Can you get a great workout from them? YES… Great training but not that many techniques.
•    Also, they combined there belts with kickboxing and jiu jitsu (Grappling) training in one. So to move up the belt ranking, you need to just take the classes.

My opinion, they are an OK school, but you need the right trainers to make it the best school. They provide techniques but I am sorry to say they are not the experts in this industry.  The reason I say that is because of there belt ranking. For example, in Jiu Jitsu there are 5 belts ranking divisions. You start with white and then go to Black. But IT TAKES YEARS AND YEARS of training to get to black. In tsk, you can become a black belt with a combine very limited knowledge of kickboxing and jiu jitsu in 2 years, which I have seen.

I would rate them out of 5 being the ultimate best a 2.5.

They from me get a Cross, Jab & Hook and a front kick combination when it comes to training with right knowledge of the sport.

Stick with what you know best and it is KARATE.

Thanks

Would love some feedback on this.

Mixed Martial Arts XTra – Finding the best mixed martial arts school or a MMA fitness program?

Welcome MMAXtra.com.
Many of my friends ask me how do you know which is the right school for MMA (MIXED MARTIAL ARTS) Training?
That is a hard question, since YOU are spending the money that can go 2 ways:

  • (A) go to waste
  • (B) help you

Before anything, you need to decide what do you want out of the school.

  1. Do you want to train in a particular form?
  2. Do you want to lose weight?
  3. Do you want your entire family to join?
  4. Do you want to gain self-confidence?
  5. Do you want to learn how to defend yourself?
  6. Do you want to fight/go into tournaments?
  7. Do they have the correct belt ranking to provide?
  8. Are they isolated in there forms of training?

Many questions, but the main question is how much do you want to spend on the school?

In my opinion, to select the right school, pick something that is affordable, maybe a family plan, something that brings professionals and certified teachers to teach the class. Here are the steps in picking out the right mixed martial arts school for you:

  1. Find out if the school provides a fitness plan – losing weight, eating right, training your weaknesses.
  2. Are there teachers certified – meaning are they black belts in the form you choose or the form they teach, do they know CPR, do they know how to encourage people to stay with it.
  3. The school provide a Family plan? Maybe you want your kids to be in the program?
  4. The school provide an incentive program for you to lose weight or bring people in. Most of all Word of mouth for a school is the best advertising. So you are taking there classes, your paying for it, and may talk about the class you had last night. You are advertising for them. So see if they have an incentive plan for that. Maybe gain an extra 5 classes per person that you refer.
  5. Are they isolated with there teachings, and belt rankings. do they have a belt ranking system for one form vs. the other. Maybe you just want to become a black belt in one form.
  6. Do they provide easy payment plans?
  7. Would you lose your classes if you are out for a 1 week or 1 day because of personal reasons or vacations. So For example, if you signed up for 6 months worth of classes and you were out sick for 1 week. Will the school provide you a make up for those classes you missed?

These are some tips that may assist in helping you make the right decision. Remember Mixed Martial Arts Fitness is a growing business, many studios are opening up. You pay for it, so get your money’s worth.
